February is over…

Well I do realize that it has been some time since my last post and I did let everyone know that I would keep updating the blog.  As the grandparents have all departed (Mike, Geri, and Debbie) from the last month of "revolving doors" they can attest that we've had a lot going on here in SoCal.  Their help was so very much appreciated!

I want to take another moment to thank everyone for their well-wishes and support.  Makenna just had her checkup today and is doing GREAT!  She is weighing in at 7lbs, 6oz at 18 days.  She’s growing up *sniffle*.  We’ll be sending out announcements hopefully tomorrow.  We’ve been dickering back and forth about it and realize we’re now almost three weeks past her birthday and haven’t sent them out!  The family should expect to see Makenna’s announcement in their mailboxes no sooner than next Monday (3/8/2010) and no later than Christmas  ;0)

Emily is doing fabulous!  She is working very hard to keep up the house and play with Makenna.  She is definitely handling business like a champ.  In the pictures you’ll see we went Downtown LA  and to the beach just two days after Makenna was born!  And I quote, “We had to get this little diva out shopping early!”  Emily is still recovering excellently.

Understandably so, medical school has been challenging lately as well.  I'm relating how I’ve been feeling about school to the latest Chinese Toy Recall:

This week in school is pretty smooth (not easy) with a new approach to learning that our professor likes to call “independent study”.  That means we pay the school tuition so we can teach ourselves.  This experimental teaching strategy is being sprung on us, in addition to the usual rigors of med school, while we’re prepping for our Level 1 Board Exams coming up in June.  So hopefully it’s apparent how easy it is to compare school to sliding over a cheese grater!
[edit: We’re just keeping busy over here - this is intended just as an update to the family.  The cheese grater is only my attempt at humor =) ]

After the exam, however, the three of us will be moved back to Tacoma, WA by Mid June for at least the next two years!!!  We just have to make it past one hurdle at a time and look forward to the happy ending when we’ll be coming home.  This is all reflective of the lifestyle Emily and I have discovered that we’re living… but we’ll have to wait for another blog to talk about our newly-discovered motto.

With Love,

fam temecula Garrett, Emily, & Makenna
