Makenna is 6 weeks now and we thought we would share a few more pictures again! She’s smiling and talking more and more every day! Her baby acne is almost gone but we found out at the doctors that she has eczema all over her face – we treat it now twice a day. Unfortunately, this runs in both sides of the family…ugh. And as of a few days ago, she can wear her 0-3 clothes, yay!!! Although, still in the newborn diapers. She’s mommy and daddy’s petite, sensitive little flower :) We enjoy every second with her!! This week we took her to Downtown Disney (to see her Aunts), and to the farmers market. (we will post Downtown Disney photos later on)
She’s got Woods written all over her!

Our sleeping angel, with her mouth open haha

Always looking her best :)

Makenna got her first tutu!! Theresa Rubadue sent it. She loves it!! Can’t you tell???

Here are some other misc. pictures as well…just because we love her SOO much!! Makenna is 5 weeks in these pictures. We took a walk along a trail the other day, & the flowers were beautiful, it was a great walk!

Another picture of her fast asleep after a long day!

HURRAY!!! Makenna and Emily (& Kimo) will be traveling home to WA on April 14th!! We are coming home for a visit so all our family & friends can finally meet Makenna. We will be staying for an undetermined amount of time because I will be looking for a home for us!! Which means, it’s almost time for our move home!! Again, HURRAY!!!
Both Grandparents homes have a nursery for Makenna and we already bought a car up there, so we are set and ready for the trip :) We are so thankful to have such wonderful family, and can’t wait to see (& meet) everyone! Makenna has been missing her Grandparents and is VERY excited to meet her Grandpa Oni (my dad)!!! Please let us know if you would like to see us and when the best time for you would be. We are going to try and see everyone before we have to come back to SoCal, but again, we will be coming back as soon as I find a house…So the sooner you want to see us the better :)
Here are some family photo’s she wanted to share with everyone:

Nena (Emily’s mom) Grandma Sally, Uncle Kevin, Nena (Emily’s G-ma & uncle)
Emily, G.G. , & Grandpa (Garret’s parents)
G.G. (Grandma Geri)
Grandpa (or Papa hehe)
MAKENNA CAN’T WAIT TO MEET THE REST OF THE FAMILY!!!!!!!
Today is her 1st pseudo-birthday! She is 1 month! We celebrated with another brief photo shoot.

I’ve also posted new pictures in the Picasa Album. Just click the picture in the right sidebar to see all the Picasa pictures.

I have been waiting to find the perfect wrap/sling to buy for Makenna and my outings (to the mall & store hehe) and I finally found one! It was recommended to me by my cousin Nicole. It's called the Sleepy Wrap
. It's beyond amazing!! Not only is it easy to use with many variations of "wrapping" techniques, but Makenna loves it as well! Even Garret enjoys wearing it around the house - no photos of him wearing it just yet ;0)

Today was warm and sunny down here in sunny SoCal so we decided to take a nice stroll with daddy around the complex using our wonderful new wrap :) And since we got out the camera...we had to take a few additional photos of her as well!
Tomorrow is her 1 month birthday and we will be posting her birthday photo-shoot so stay tuned!

Well, the results are in! A good majority of Garrett’s rotations for the 2010-2011 school year are at St. Joseph hospital in Tacoma, WA. Even more news is that we have vacation over Christmas and into the New Year! We’re very excited about this. For the family that are interested, you can see the rotation sites by clicking them on the map below: (It’s easiest if you click the “Rotations!” link at the bottom, left to open a new window)
View Rotations! in a larger map
Also, I have to be sure to tell everyone the latest - Makenna has been LOVING her new Moby Wrap
that Emily bought! She just looks up, stares, and then falls right asleep. *No pacifier required. It has to be the MOST happy she’s been (with me at least) in the last couple of days! Emily will write some more to explain all the details, but I couldn’t resist sharing because it was so exciting this morning. She bought the orange wrap and we’ll have to show off pictures later. I haven’t gotten around to uploading/editing any pictures in the last couple of days. We’ll be sure to put some up very soon!
Wishing everyone the best,

Sorry to anyone that was trying to check the website today. I sent out announcements via facebook, snail mail, phone calls, etc to invite people to visit the webpage. It got me thinking how cool it would be if we had a great-looking webpage… unfortunately, that’s when the trouble began.
I loaded a template that absolutely demolished the layout of the entire webpage. Fortunately all of the site content was preserved so it just took a little time to get everything sorted back out.
As you can see, the layout is a little more wide now, which means we can post larger pictures! Also, you’ll note little bubbles at the top of each blog entry that depicts how many comments have been left. Hopefully it makes it easier for everyone to post little tidbits and comments as you read along. We like hearing from everyone even if it is in a non-traditional way!
There’s also new buttons at the bottom of each post in case you want to share a post with friends via email, facebook, or just about any other program you can think of! Anyways, the website is nowhere near being finished, but it’s a start. If there are any problems anyone is having please let me know!

This little girl was full of energy so we tried getting out the Bumbo and she liked it! For those that are keeping up, here’s a couple pictures of Makenna in her purple Bumbo Baby Sitter.
She’s sitting up on her own more and more everyday!
There’s a few more pictures here that didn’t turn out so well, but I included them just because…

And here’s the latest mugshot of Makenna with her momma holding her… (She’s looking like a good mix between the two of us!)

If you like this blog or have any suggestions/comments, please leave comments for our family via the links below each blog entry. We’re really interested in keeping this website up-to-date with entries in our lives, but we want to hear what everyone has to say!
We’ve had a lot to write this weekend due to a really ‘lax’ schedule. There may not be quite as many updates in the next week or two but keep checking back in as we’ll always be sure to update as frequently as we are able. Also, if you press the “follow” link on the right, you will be asked to log in with a yahoo, Gmail or other email account and you’ll automatically get updates when we post new entries… and I promise you won’t be signing up for any ‘spam’ email! ;0)

Makenna is at 3 weeks, been holding her head up strong, and now we're even getting her to scoot across the floor (sort of)! The video below is of Makenna getting fussy, but when she started kicking her legs we had a little fun with her scooting across the floor ;0)
She gives us quite the last little yelp at the end of the video!

There’s another short video of our trip to the LA Farmers market just 2 days after Makenna was born. Emily was worn out by the end of the day, but she was a trooper given she had only been out of the hospital for 1 day! Note that there are a couple pictures on Picasa of the beach, but I don’t think there were any from the Farmers market portion of that trip

Well I do realize that it has been some time since my last post and I did let everyone know that I would keep updating the blog. As the grandparents have all departed (Mike, Geri, and Debbie) from the last month of "revolving doors" they can attest that we've had a lot going on here in SoCal. Their help was so very much appreciated!
I want to take another moment to thank everyone for their well-wishes and support. Makenna just had her checkup today and is doing GREAT! She is weighing in at 7lbs, 6oz at 18 days. She’s growing up *sniffle*. We’ll be sending out announcements hopefully tomorrow. We’ve been dickering back and forth about it and realize we’re now almost three weeks past her birthday and haven’t sent them out! The family should expect to see Makenna’s announcement in their mailboxes no sooner than next Monday (3/8/2010) and no later than Christmas ;0)
Emily is doing fabulous! She is working very hard to keep up the house and play with Makenna. She is definitely handling business like a champ. In the pictures you’ll see we went Downtown LA and to the beach just two days after Makenna was born! And I quote, “We had to get this little diva out shopping early!” Emily is still recovering excellently.
Understandably so, medical school has been challenging lately as well. I'm relating how I’ve been feeling about school to the latest Chinese Toy Recall:

This week in school is pretty smooth (not easy) with a new approach to learning that our professor likes to call “independent study”. That means we pay the school tuition so we can teach ourselves. This experimental teaching strategy is being sprung on us, in addition to the usual rigors of med school, while we’re prepping for our Level 1 Board Exams coming up in June. So hopefully it’s apparent how easy it is to compare school to sliding over a cheese grater!
[edit: We’re just keeping busy over here - this is intended just as an update to the family. The cheese grater is only my attempt at humor =) ]
After the exam, however, the three of us will be moved back to Tacoma, WA by Mid June for at least the next two years!!! We just have to make it past one hurdle at a time and look forward to the happy ending when we’ll be coming home. This is all reflective of the lifestyle Emily and I have discovered that we’re living… but we’ll have to wait for another blog to talk about our newly-discovered motto.
With Love,
Garrett, Emily, & Makenna
